Apple iPhone users are well aware of Siri which has gained quite a lot of recognition since its release. But what many people missed is that Google has also come up with a Google Voice Search which is much advanced voice search tool. It allows the user to search for the data in the device which is using Google Voice Search by entering the information which is to be searched just by speaking.
Along with this Google also launched a tool called Voice Action which are designed for Android phones. This feature is used to give speech commands to the Android mobile phone. This features doesn’t support the wide variety of languages as of now. Currently it is limited to few languages viz. U.S. and British English, German, Italian, Spanish and French.
Google Voice Search app developed for iOS and submitted to Apple store in August was stuck in Apple’s app approval process for over two months. However on 30th October, 2012 Google announced that the new app was out.
Apple didn’t give any solid reasons for such a long delay in the approval process. This app for iOS seems to be a blend of Siri and Google Now features.
Google follows a simple rule when it comes to search queries. According to Google:
“When you have a question, finding the answer should be effortless—wherever you are and whatever device you’re using.”
The Google Voice search app for iOS helps one fulfill this purpose but not in the traditional way of giving a query as an input. Instead one can do this by just speaking because this app gives enhanced voice search which gives answer to all relevant questions and queries with Google search results.
This app of Google is fast and accurate in voice reginition. This enables Google to understand the exact input by user. The words appear on the screen as the user speaks and the answer is received immediately as well.
Just like Siri, one can ask Google voice Search all kinds of questions and it will try answering them all. However for some of the user queries it might return google search results and not a voice response.
Unlike Siri which asks if the user wants to search the web before it performs any action, Google Voice search will show results and pictures when user requests.
This app is now available through iTunes for the iOS device users with iPhone, iPad or iPod touch.
