So what alternatives/substitutes do we have?

Let’s have a look at some of the alternatives to the yahoo site explorer which exist in order to check a website backlinks data to help remain in the competitive run.

  • Open site explorer
  • This tool has been developed by the SEOMoz, and is considered as one of the best substitutes for yahoo site explorer and it also provides even more functionality and data than the latter. Its display of data is neat but only shows 200 results for unregistered user; 10000 results for registered user and no limit for SEOmoz pro user. The pro version includes greater functionalities for acquiring more important and competitive data.

  • Link diagnosis
  • It is a free and an effective tool used to find number of backlinks, type of the backlink (whether a no-follow or a do-follow) and PR of the pages linking to us. Besides these, it also helps further with control if webmaster have their toolbar installed, which is free but only available for Firefox browser. However, the downside is its data doesn’t appear to be entirely accurate and links are not clickable.

  • Ahrefs
  • This tool is quite different to the other backlink checkers, as it exhibits couple of unique features. Ahrefs assists in getting backlinks data, together with different important metrics. But it is beneficial in that it helps greatly for the backlinks analysis purpose, as it also shows very special information like lost backlinks in specific month & even on date, SERPs analysis, redirected links, the IP address of the received links, etc.  They also have a paid version for better functionality and complete data, but it does have issues of proper data presentation, which proves to be a hassle.

  • Backlink watch
  • This tool is another alternative, providing similar functionality as yahoo site explorer and is entirely free. However the data appears to be incorrect and missing many aspects when displayed. Also there is no data exporting facility, plus the page is cluttered with lots of advertisements which annoy the webmasters.

Many webmasters were disappointed to see yahoo site explorer demise, as it proved to be a very reliable in providing link data which was competent.  Above mentioned are just few backlink checking tools, but however there are lot many more available online. Thus, it is recommended that you choose a tool which best suit your requirements.
