Bing! vs. Google

The long awaited Microsoft’s new search engine Bing! Is now publicly available, you can access it at www.bing.com.

Whether Bing ultimately succeeds or not, but it seems it will ensure that Google doesn’t get too greedy. Microsoft is expected to spend $80 million to $100 million on Bing marketing which is a pretty big budget.

How is Bing different from Google?

• Bing and Google does note have any major difference, even though people have found that results from Bing are stronger and ethical. There are some visible differences:
• Bing shows a preview of the web pages on the search page itself when you hover your mouse pointer on the right of the search result.
• Search results are divided into categories. If you search for a popular celebrity or singer you’ll get categorized results news, songs, movies, bio, wallpapers etc. In addition to this, the search results show images, videos and the popularity of the artist eg link.
• Bing displays limited results if its certain that your query has been properly understood by it. Eg the search for a popular brand like youtube or facebook will bring up just a single result link to the site itself eg link.
• Wikipedia searches can be displayed inline in the search results without leaving the Bing site by clicking the “Enhanced view” link eg link.
• Bing features a different background image everyday to make its user feel fresh each time they visit. The images also contain hidden hotspots that lead you to more information about the image (may soon turn to advertising).
• You can turn off the background image but, despite the background image Bing’s homepage loads very quickly in your web browser because the search box and logo load first.
• Its video search lets you watch videos without leaving the search page eg link.
• Bing offers specific health, shopping and travel search engine, also instant answers to travel searches. For eg the search “Vegas hotels” displays a list of hotels in Las Vegas including hotel stars and price eg link.
• It provides a unique feature which lets you return to your most recent searches.     This feature can also be turned off to help protect your privacy.
