With the boom in local search SERP’s are going crazy and it’s getting really hard to keep up with the “Google Dance” for SEO Competitive Research. During the year 2009 we have seen a number of updates on the SERP some seems to be just testing while some were implemented permanently. Due to all this the companies providing Website Analytics Service are in high demand, as everyone wants their website to be perfect so that it does not suffer a fall in raking in case of an update. If you have ever done SEO for E-commerce sites you would perfectly know the importance of local search.
Now, recently while I was checking the SERP’s something caught my eye. Yes, it were the regional tags next to the listings. I took a screenshot of it for you guys. If you see in the below image you’ll see “United States” next to the cached option.

This thing tingled me and thus i went into a deeper research to find out the further How’s and Why’s.
Have you ever seen any site that has lots of visitors per day but site is not ranking well? Yes, there are lots of websites on internet which are getting lots of targeting visitors and also not ranking well. Many of us thinking how it is possible? But it can be possible and not that much tough also.
If it’s true that more than 50% of people are clinking click on a result other than #1, this means that most people are disagree with the search engine’s judgment as to which page best satisfies their query.

Without Ranking Lots of Visitors

What strategy to adopt in 2009 for keywords to optimize natural search a website? Google now suggests that popular queries and personalize more search results, will they lead to new approaches? Depending on the type of site and topic, must seek the “head” or “tail”?
Strategy keyword: head or tail?
No it does not matter which part of the animal you have been served in your “hotdog”, but rather to ask whether to concentrate its efforts on some SEO keywords with very high traffic, the head or else while on the long tail or more commonly the tail, i.e. a very large number of detailed terms, but with few visitors each.
We will not repeat the methods for identifying key words or phrases, either with good industry knowledge, market or the theme of the site, an analysis of competition, or the use of ’semantic tools, suggestions, synonyms and statistics … which can add some data from
-Google Suggest
-Google Search-based keyword tool
-Google AdWords: Keyword Tool
Recall that Google only provides us with many free tools to identify words with the greatest potential: the generator of keywords with expressions suggesting an idea of traffic and competition, the forecasting tool of traffic from Google Adwords giving the estimated number of clicks per day. Also Google Insights for Search (beta) is very useful to compare multiple queries. See also (again and especially in the operating environment Anglo-Saxon today): Google Keyword Based Search Tool for finding new applications based on URL (*) of a site and more generally on its theme, with an idea monthly traffic.
Firstly if your site is relatively new or has not a very high profile coupled with high power based on important content, many pages linked together by a mesh effectively, you will most certainly attack you to the tail before the head. That is a good position on many secondary applications; you will then better performance on key applications. Note also that the complaints of the type long tail is often better targeted than it will bring qualified traffic and therefore better rates of transformations that you will return your efforts faster!
Impact of Google Suggest
At first glance, most people will use this new feature of Google, now being implemented and standard since the summer of 2008, less the number of searches such as “long tail” is important. According to preliminary statistics available to date in the thematic public about one third of the requests would use the suggestions of the engine.
This suggests that we will see a concentration of competition on popular queries and expressions recommended by Google. This will likely diminish the interest of trying to stand on misspelled words, and limit the number of requests than 5 words or more.
On the other side for queries on a single keyword, Google will suggest a dozen expressions; usually 2 or 3 words (eg try. “Pounds”), and to refine the search. The merger will therefore see the expressions on days 2 or 3 words, already the most used, users having realized that a single query word was often too vague. For those who are the “head”, it will also have to deal at least with the first suggestions of engines, which will indirectly increase the number of expressions to optimize strategic question … Keywords
But this time the theme of the site and type of targeted visitors will intervene. In areas of “geeks” (*) or merely technical, or niche, it is likely that the use and impact of Google Suggest will be low. By cons in public areas, the user may be inclined to use the guided search of Google, which will probably cause a concentration of competition. But as in these areas, the importance of traffic and profit potential is associated with strong competition, a strategy head will not really be successful without first coupled with a strategy of tail.
The personalization of search results
given the changes in positioning and referencing the advent of location-based and universal search, the potential concentration and standardization provided by Google Suggest will be largely offset by greater customization. What are the searches results
individuals for a growing number of Internet users, but also suggestions of research may differ from one individual to another, all this will lead ultimately to a greater variety of expressions to target…
What Strategy in 2009?
In conclusion, should aim for the head or tail? The answer is not monolithic, of course depends on the reference site and its theme, competence, network, and objectives of the SEO or webmaster. So unless you’re creative enough and well armed, for example to influence the suggestions of the engine, you’ll need to aim to catch the tail one day head!
Develop a website, start by optimizing the content, pages and site structure to position itself on the “long tail” seems always pays. Also the best way to ensure continued good seo strategy (*) is to analyze the sources of traffic and visitor behavior. This will be done using a program measurement and analytics, eg. Google Analytics.
